On Monday, June 17, at Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 21 runs in a low-scoring match. On-field animosity, though, erupted amid a tense discussion between Nepali captain Rohit Paudel and Bangladeshi pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
As the visitors were reeling at 9/2, the incident happened in the third over of Nepal’s pursuit of 107. After dismissing Anil Sah and Kushal Bhurtel, the openers, Tanzim was outstanding with the new ball. He added further pressure by bowling two dot balls to a struggling Paudel after dismissing Sah.
Tanzim and Paudel clearly had a bad attitude towards each other as the over finished, exchanging death glances and heated remarks. It was necessary for the umpires to step in and request that Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto diffuse the tension.

Bangladesh reserves a Super Eight spot.
In the match’s fifth over, Tanzim got the last laugh by hitting Paudel for a single. With his crucial 4/7 in his four overs, the Bengal Tigers were able to restrict Nepal to just 85 runs, securing their place in the Super Eight. For the second round of the international competition, they are now in Group 1 with Afghanistan, Australia, and India.
It is noteworthy that Bangladeshis were assigned to bat first and were earlier bowled out for 106. The opposition seamers’ outstanding bowling caused Nepal’s chase to collapse at 24/4 in six overs. While trying to reconstruct the innings, Kushal Malla (age 27) and Dipendra Singh Airee (age 25) found the objective to be too much. Tanzim’s opening burst set the stage for his team’s valiant 21-run victory, although Mustafizur Rahman (3/7) and Shakib (2/17) gave outstanding support.

As this is going on, Shanto and company’s main goal is to maximise their performance in the Super Eight round and hope to advance to the tournament’s knockout stages. On June 21, they will face off against the reigning champions, Australia. Then, on June 22, they will face off against Afghanistan and India.
