It is unlikely that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play in the three-match white ball series against the South Africa A team that is on tour. The three day/night matches in Rajkot on November 13, 16, and 19 will be played by an India A team; however, the two senior cricketers, who exclusively play in the ODI format of international cricket, are not likely to be included in the squad.
The India A team will be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a day or two, but it has been rumored that the selectors have certain plans for the three games and are unlikely to draft the two veterans for them.
In their last three ODI matches in Australia, Rohit and Virat, who led India in every format, both had outstanding performances; in fact, Rohit was the series’ star.
However, they needed two or three games to settle into their rhythm. Rohit won the series after failing in the first game with scores of 73 and 121 not out, while Virat performed well in the third game (74 not out) after registering ducks in the first two. In Australia, things may have been different if the two had not been so spectacular.
India A is currently playing South Africa A in a two-match red ball series at the CoE in Bengaluru. The first four-day match ended on November 2 with the India A team, led by Rishabh Pant, winning. Thursday, November 6, is the start date for the second game.
In addition to announcing the team for the two-Test series against Temba Bavuma’s team, the Indian selectors are anticipated to meet soon to choose the India A team. Except for the anticipated addition of Rishabh Pant in lieu of N Jagadeesan, it is doubtful that the Test team will differ from the one that most recently faced the West Indies.
The two Test matches against South Africa, the reigning champions of the World Test Championship, will take place in Guwahati from November 22 to 26 and Kolkata from November 14 to 18. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be picked for the eight white-ball matches, which include three ODIs, that will follow the Test series.
