As members of the ODI team for the forthcoming white-ball series against Australia, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to make their long-awaited comeback to international cricket. Since February and March, when the Champions Trophy was played, the two have not played for India.
Due to their retirement from Test and Twenty20 Internationals, the two are only playing ODI cricket. The team for the series is expected to be announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCI) on Saturday, October 4.
The three ODIs that the Men in Blue will play in the series are scheduled for October 19 in Perth, October 23 in Adelaide, and October 25 in Sydney. Five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) from October 29 to November 8 will follow. It is expected that the T20I team would be announced alongside the 50-over team.
After India won a thrilling summit match against South Africa by seven runs last year, Rohit and Kohli announced their retirement from Twenty20 Internationals. Regarding their request for the longest format, earlier this year, before the five-match Test series against England, Rohit and Kohli declared their retirement.
Both Rohit and Kohli have their sights set on the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Rohit will be forty years old and Kohli will be thirty-nine by the time the major tournament arrives. There have been rumours that they might not be given much thought by the BCCI.
In contrast to what was anticipated, Rohit and Kohli were left out of the India A squad for the match against Australia A. Interestingly, India A won the two-match unofficial Test series by a score of 1-0. With two more ODIs remaining, they are coming off a 171-run victory in the first unofficial ODI in Kanpur.
