Mumbai top selector Sanjay Patil has come forward to clarify that star India batsman Rohit Sharma has not yet communicated on his desire to play for the home team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26, despite prior media claims to the contrary. However, Patil said that if Sharma makes himself accessible, the Mumbai team will applaud his choice.
According to earlier reports, Virat Kohli had not yet announced his intention to compete in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, whereas Rohit had already contacted the Mumbai Cricket Association. The Men in Blue opener has not yet confirmed that he would play for Mumbai, though, as Patil’s statement makes plain.
As of right now, I have not heard from Rohit Sharma. However, it will benefit us if he plays for Mumbai. It will benefit the younger generation. According to the Mumbai Mirror, Patil said, “I appreciate the BCCI, Ajit Agarkar, and Gautam Gambhir for asking India players to play for their teams in domestic cricket when available.”
Both Virat and Rohit currently exclusively play for the Indian side in One-Day Internationals. Furthermore, it is imperative that the top Indian team, now captained by Shubman Gill, play VHT in order to be selected for the ODI squad in the future, as the BCCI mandate expressly requests that players play domestic cricket when not on national duty.
