Rohit Sharma gives credit to "three pillars" for allowing him to revolutionise Team India

India’s quest for an ICC trophy was eventually ended in 2024 when they won the T20 World Cup, led by Rohit Sharma. They overcame South Africa by seven runs in the finals, and many of the older players—including captain and star batsman Virat Kohli, who was instrumental in the top match—were seen crying.

Regarding their triumph in the competition, Rohit expressed gratitude to top selector Ajit Agarkar, former head coach Rahul Dravid, and BCCI secretary Jay Shah for their unwavering support. Along with referring to them as “three pillars,” he stated that turning Team India into a victorious squad was his mission. The 37-year-old went on to say that he didn’t really care about outcomes or metrics, preferring to foster a nice environment in the locker room and provide each player with personal freedom.

“It was my goal to revamp this team and not be overly concerned with the numbers, the outcomes, to ensure that we establish that atmosphere where individuals can go out there and play freely without thinking too much,” Rohit remarked following his announcement as the Men’s International Cricketer of the Year at a Mumbai function.

That was the necessary step. I received a great deal of support from my three pillars, who are Mr. Jay Shah, Mr. Rahul Dravid, and Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors. It was imperative that I accomplish what I did and remember the guys who contributed at various times to enable the team to reach its goals, he continued.

When you do something, you constantly anticipate doing better: Rohit Sharma

With the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, Rohit has new objectives and difficulties to overcome. The objective is to perform well in all ten Test matches that India will play later in the year, which include two against Bangladesh, three against New Zealand, and five against Australia. With secretary Jay Shah expressing his confidence in finishing the job, India will once again qualify for the WTC finals if they win all of their matches. This time, they will hope to win.

“We have a few excellent and really difficult tours scheduled in the near future. We never stop doing it. After you accomplish anything, you constantly want to do more. I’m going to do just that. My teammates will most likely be thinking along the same lines. As far as Indian cricket is concerned, Rohit continued, “I’ve watched some really exciting, really good cricket being played over the last two years.”
