Rohit Can Play Freely Now – Ex-Spinner

Amit Mishra, a former Indian cricket player, thinks that veteran opener Rohit Sharma, who makes his comeback to international cricket on Sunday, October 19, in the ODI series opener against Australia, may benefit from being released from the captaincy duty.

Rohit won Player of the Match for his brilliant 76 off 83 in the final, capping off his final appearance as India’s ODI captain and the team’s undefeated record in the Champions Trophy.

The selection committee has decided to elevate Shubman Gill in the hierarchy of leadership, beginning with the three-match ODI series in Perth, Australia.

There were conflicting responses to the selection committee’s conclusion, which was led by Ajit Agarkar. The former captain will now have more freedom to express himself, according to Mishra, who sees the benefit of Rohit playing only as an opener.

“I think Rohit is benefiting from not having to worry about captaincy anymore.

He’s free. His performance and the team’s victory must be his top priorities. “He can assist Gill with various facets of the captaincy,” Mishra stated.

Since May, Gill’s leadership responsibilities have piled up quickly. Following a brief announcement of his retirement from the Test format, the 26-year-old Rohit was given the responsibility of captaining India during a demanding five-match Test tour to England. With a career-best 269 and a record-breaking 754 runs at an average of 75.40, he lived up to the hype as the series concluded in a 2-2 draw.

Considering the long term, Mishra thinks Gill should assume leadership early since it will enable him to develop more quickly and lead India for many years to come.

“I believe it is beneficial for Gill. For the past two years, he has led the Indian Premier League as captain. He has guided the best players in the world. It’s a good thing Gill is regarded as the captain. Given that he was given the captaincy at a young age, he will develop swiftly and be able to serve India for many years. Gill should have fun and strive for rapid maturity, Mishra advised.
