Rodrigues in Line to Lead Delhi Capitals

At the next Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, Jemimah Rodrigues may be spotted leading the Delhi Capitals Women. For the first time since Meg Lanning, who guided the team to three straight finals, a new full-time captain will be leading the team. Nonetheless, Lanning was fired by the team, making room for Jemimah to take over as captain immediately.

Notably, the Mumbai native was the vice-captain the season before, thus she has already been a part of DC’s leadership core. Jemimah would want to help the Delhi-based squad go the distance and cross the finish line to win their first WPL crown, which has eluded them for every season so far, if the promotion narrative is accurate.

On Tuesday, December 23, Rodrigues position as captain will be formally announced, according to Cricbuzz.

She will be seen in charge of a group that also includes, among others, Laura Wolvaardt, Annabel Sutherland, Marizanne Kapp, Sneh Rana, and Shafali Verma.

Speaking of her WPL stats, Rodrigues has participated in 27 league games thus far, all with DC, and has amassed 507 runs at an average of 28.16, including three half-centuries. In 2024, she had her best season, hitting the ball at a scorching pace of 153.59 and scoring 235 runs in nine games.
