The animosity between CSK and RCB supporters has drawn harsh criticism from former Indian cricket player Robin Uthappa, who claims that the rivalry has transcended sportsmanship and become personal.
The Rajat Patidar-led side won the contest in the final ball of their most recent play at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was an intense match. However, a number of RCB supporters were observed making fun of CSK fans during the post-match scenes outside the stadium, which attracted extra attention for a variety of unjustified reasons. Uthappa reacted harshly as some footage surfaced showing women being heckled as well. The former IPL cricket player, who has played for both teams, voiced dissatisfaction with the conduct and referred to it as disorderly.
“It was quite heated. One thing I noticed outside the stadium that I felt was offensive was that they were making fun of the team and its players as the bus was departing. The supporters fighting with one another was the other thing I witnessed. To be honest, I witnessed ladies being heckled, which felt shady. That was uncalled for, as we seen even in Chennai last year. Robin Uthappa told Jarrod Kimber on his YouTube channel, “It’s not on at all.”
Neck injury at RCB changed me. Hit, Collapsed, Blood Rushing, Concussed. Hospital overnight, fear gripped me. Couldn’t face shots. Forced myself to play fast to kill the fear.

It was so harshly ridiculed: Robin Uthappa
The 39-year-old also recalled how the five-time winners’ two-year suspension had been used as a joke by RCB supporters. Due to a spot-fixing incident, the CSK franchise was prohibited from participating in the IPL in 2016 and 2017. When some fans displayed jail-style shirts with veteran MS Dhoni’s name written on them, they went too far in the rivalry. This is going beyond athletics, he said, and it should be taken into account.
“It has become quite intense. They are displaying white T-shirts with black lines on them that indicate the dates of CSK’s two-year ban. They have Thala underneath it and MS’ number sort of scribbled on it, indicating that they were incarcerated for two years or something. I’m worried that it’s moving a bit beyond sports. Since this is ultimately a sport,” Robin Uthappa continued.
