After an injury-plagued 2022, Jofra Archer made his long-awaited return to competitive cricket earlier this year. However, his injury woes persisted, as he was sidelined with an elbow injury after playing just five times for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing 16th season of the IPL.
Rob Key, England’s managing director, exhorted people to be patient with the star fast bowler, citing the example of Australian captain Pat Cummins, despite the fact that his injury concerns have frustrated a number of people. Cummins, who will captain the Australian red-ball side in next month’s Ashes, was similarly plagued by injuries in his early career as Archer.
