The West Indies Test team has called up Kemar Roach for their December trip of New Zealand. For the three games, Roach was a member of a 15-man team; however, Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph are still out because of injury.
Roach’s 85-Test record will help balance out a somewhat inexperienced pace attack that also includes 29-year-old Ojay Shields, who was called up for the first time.
Roach last played a Test in January, in Multan, during their tour of Pakistan.
Kavem Hodge, an all-rounder who also played in his final Test match against Multan, has been invited back into the team. Khary Pierre has been removed from the team, though, and he and his left-arm orthodox spin bowling are currently out of favour.
“New Zealand has historically been one of the hardest places for any touring side,” stated Miles Bascombe, Director of Cricket for Cricket West Indies. The new high-performance camp in Antigua was created to mimic the circumstances we anticipate seeing as much as possible, especially the pace-friendly terrain.”
Players named in the squad, including Shields and Roach, have finished a two-week high-performance camp in the area. They will also play a two-day warm-up match against a New Zealand XI in Christchurch on November 20, joining the rest of the team, who are already in New Zealand for the upcoming ODI series.
The World Test Championship cycle will continue to include the series. Among the teams who have participated in at least one Test match this cycle, West Indies is at the bottom of the chart because they have lost each of their five previous appearances. In contrast, New Zealand has not yet played a game in the cycle, and this series against the West Indies will represent the late start of their WTC campaign.
The West Indies team will go to New Zealand.
