WATCH: Rishi Sunak's surprise cricket cameo Meets Buttler & Suryakumar in epic Wankhede moment!

As part of his India tour, former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is currently in Mumbai. The well-known politician, who is well-known for his love and enthusiasm for cricket, could not hold back from attending the storied Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, February 2. Notably, Team India (IND) will welcome England (ENG) in a highly anticipated Twenty20 International match this weekend. For those who don’t know, the home team is now ahead 3-1 in the T20I series.

The famous location never fails to draw cricket fans, despite the fact that the fifth and final Twenty20 International of the series is a dead rubber. Sunak was no different, and he made sure to visit the stadium as well as the city without wasting any time. Sunak met the two captains in question, Jos Buttler and Suryakumar Yadav, as soon as he joined the cricket festival.

The former prime minister was seen chatting merrily with both cricket players just after the toss. Because of this, the moment became viral on social media very quickly, and Indian cricket fans are really enjoying it. Speaking of the toss, England captain Buttler chose to try with the ball first after being happy to see the coin flip in his favour. Suryakumar, the captain of India, was also pleased to bat first, despite his optimism that the dew effect would aid the team in the run chase. Since this is the home field, Sky, as he is affectionately known, has a good notion of how much dew will be involved in the final Twenty20 International.

Sunak played cricket at Mumbai’s Parsee Gymkhana.

While at the city of dreams, Rishi Sunak, who is well-known for his unwavering passion for cricket, did not miss out on the enjoyment of playing some gully cricket. During his visit to Mumbai, the former British leader made time to pick up a bat and enjoy playing tennis at the famous Parsee Gymkhana club. After that, he posted on social media about the fascinating cricket-related experiences he had while travelling.

“A game of tennis ball cricket is a must-do activity for any trip to Mumbai,” Sunak said on his official ‘X’ handle.

Speaking of the current series, Team India will aim to conclude the Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) with a strong showing before preparing for the three-match 50-overs, or ODI, format. Notably, both England and the hosts would view the forthcoming assignment as a better opportunity to get ready for the Champions Trophy 2025, the next major ICC tournament. The highly anticipated competition is set to start in Pakistan on February 19. Additionally, since the UAE is co-hosting the tournament, they will host all of the matches in which the Indian team participates on a hybrid basis.
