Following the resolution of visa issues involving leg-spinner Rishad Hossain and speedster Nahid Rana, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is scheduled to repatriate left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed from the United Arab Emirates.
After Rishad Hossain and Nahid were left stuck at Dubai International Airport for three days in a row due to improper entry permits, Nasum was flown to Dubai on Friday as a precaution.
Late on Friday, May 16, the pair’s visa problems were settled, enabling them to join the national squad in the United Arab Emirates in advance of the opening Twenty20 International of the two-match series the next day.
“Nasum is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow. We were a little confused because of a visa issue, so yesterday we dispatched Nasum to the United Arab Emirates as a backup plan. Nasum will go back home now that they have their visas and are a part of the team,” Shahriar Nafees, the BCB’s cricket operations in-charge, told The Daily Star on Saturday, May 17.
Additionally, he revealed that Mustafizur Rahman, an accomplished seamer, would only be available for one match. On May 17 and 19, Bangladesh will play the United Arab Emirates in two Twenty20 Internationals at Sharjah.
“It was a backup plan. In addition to not being granted visas, Mustafizur [Rahman] is scheduled to depart the team after just one game. For us, Nasum was more of a backup,” he continued.
Prior to travelling to the United Arab Emirates, Nasum was in Sylhet with the Bangladesh ‘A’ team. The first four-day encounter against New Zealand ‘A’, which the hosts lost by 70 runs on the last day, did not feature the 30-year-old.
UAE chooses to bowl first after winning the toss.
In Saturday’s first Twenty20 International, UAE captain Muhammad Waseem chose to field first after winning the toss. At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Matiullah Khan gave the home team their first run when he dismissed Tanzid Hasan in the second over.
Following the initial setback, Bangladesh batted brilliantly, as Litton Das and Parvez Hossain Emon combined for 36 runs off 21 deliveries during the powerplay. This occurred prior to Muhammad Jawadullah dismissing Litton with a strike off his first delivery in the sixth over. After the powerplay, Bangladesh quickly reached 55/2. They’ll try to build on their strong start.
