Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), was fined INR 30 lakh for his third slow overrate infraction this season. The event happened Tuesday in the 70th IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, when RCB won by six wickets after an outstanding chase to guarantee a Qualifier 1 spot for the first time since 2016.
Rishabh Pant was fined heavily for his third violation after being punished on April 5 and April 26. 50% of their match fee or INR 12 lakh, whichever was less, was fined to the remaining members of the playing XII. Rishabh Pant was lucky to avoid suspension due to the IPL 2025 rule change. The previous regulation said that a third violation resulted in a one-match ban.
Up until the first innings, however, it was all Rishabh Pant.
The LSG captain scored an undefeated 118 off just 61 balls, adding eight sixes and eleven fours to his innings. He helped the hosts reach a solid total of 227/3 in their allocated 20 overs by stitching a huge 152-run partnership with Mitchell Marsh (67 off 37).
As he faced Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suyash Sharma, and Romario Shepherd, the Southpaw appeared to be in good form. He reached his fifty in 29 balls and increased the run-rate even more in the last overs. The RCB hitters appeared cool and collected in spite of the pressure of pursuing a large goal. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt, the openers, got off to a fast start, raising the team’s total to 61 in just 5.4 overs.
Kohli scored 54 off 30 balls after Salt was out for 30. The second half of the day, however, went in favour of Jitesh Sharma, the stand-in captain for the RCB, who hit his first IPL fifty, which included eight fours and six sixes, with an undefeated 85 off just 33 balls. With Mayank Agarwal (41* off 23) holding one end and Jitesh’s measured aggression, they formed an unbroken 107-run stand that gave them a six-wicket victory with eight balls remaining.
