"It took some time for us to build that trust and for that I had to change my style of approach to coaching a little bit and understand where he is coming from," Sridhar.

Rishabh Pant was difficult to connect with and took effort to build trust. R. Sridhar

From 2014 till 2021, R Sridhar served as the Indian team’s fielding coach. The seasoned player has collaborated with numerous Indian cricket legends and represented his country in multiple ICC competitions. According to the 55-year-old, Rishabh Pant is the most difficult person to connect with.

Rishabh Pant made his Indian debut in 2017 and was hailed as an X-factor for his unconventional but consistent batting style. From the beginning, the wicketkeeper-batter was capable of playing some of the most amazing shots. His shenanigans were evident in his behaviour off the pitch as well. It was hard to get a connection with the Uttarakhand batter, Sridhar joked.

It’s a straightforward coaching tenet. Teach them how they learn if you can’t teach them how you learn. You think you’ve done your job when you say something, but if athletes aren’t picking it up, then you haven’t done it well enough. You have to modify your style to fit the athlete’s needs,” Sridhar stated on “Anubhav Talks.”

“This was an example with Rishabh Pant because he was a young child, a teenager, and he was 20 years old. soon after the World Cup for Under-19 players. You know, when he first came out, I had a hard time getting along with him. You have to accept that it was a challenge since he had his ways. It took some time for us to develop that trust, so I had to adapt my coaching style a little bit in order to better grasp his perspective and goals,” he continued.

Rishabh Pant came up with the hilarious Puke and Rally idea.

In his book Puke and Rally, Rob Bell raises an important query: “Why do more people die descending Mount Everest than ascending it?”

After the rampaging talent was involved in a potentially fatal vehicle accident in December 2022, things started to go wrong for him. Due to significant injury to his leg, he was forced to sit out nearly two years of football and was in danger of having it amputated. In preparation for his comeback in the IPL 2024, the cricket player made NCA his holy abode and strengthened both his physical and mental fortitude.

Pant’s bravery was spotted in spots, but it was sufficient to get him on a plane to the West Indies for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Pant received praise for his critical hits in the middle as India went on to win the much-coveted championship.
