Watch: Rishabh Pant trudges back to pavilion after controversial DRS dismissal

The second innings of the third Test match between India and New Zealand in Mumbai featured another outstanding batting performance by keeper-batter Rishabh Pant. The intermediate order took over after the top order came apart once more. At Wankhede Stadium, India needed to score 147 runs, and Pant was the only player who was able to maintain his pace and exert pressure on the Kiwis.

Rishabh Pant made 64 off 57 before Ajaz Patel beat him, demonstrating an aggressive style of cricket despite the hosts being under tremendous pressure.

Umpire Richard Illingworth was unconvinced, and Pant was certain it didn’t strike the bat. Nevertheless, Tom Latham, the captain of New Zealand, chose to examine the call. The batter was ruled out by third umpire Paul Reiffel because the UltraEdge notably displayed a spike when the ball was near the bat.

Pant attempted to clarify to the on-field referee that the spike was caused by the bat striking his pad rather than the ba. But when it was decided, Pant had to leave, deeply dejected because India had been beaten to 106/7.
