Rishabh Pant surpasses Rohit Sharma's six count, trails Sehwag by one

Rishabh Pant, the vice captain of India, made history by being the team’s second-highest six-hitter in Test cricket. At the storied Old Trafford stadium in Manchester, he accomplished this feat on Day 1 of the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 20-25.

With a full-length delivery from Brydon Carse over a wide long-on region for a maximum, Rishabh Pant celebrated the milestone in style.

With his usual aggression, the wicketkeeper-batter maintained his form and hit the ball cleanly over the boundary on the third delivery of the 61st over.

With the maximum, Rishabh Pant surpassed previous skipper Rohit Sharma (88) to reach 89 sixes in red-ball cricket for India. Virender Sehwag, who leads the Indian chart with 90 sixes in red-ball format for the Baggy Blues, is currently barely behind him.

India’s most sixes in Test matches

Sr. No. Player Matches Innings Sixes
1 Virender Sehwag 103 178 90
2 Rishabh Pant 47* 82 89
3 Rohit Sharma 67 116 88
4 MS Dhoni 90 144 78
5 Ravindra Jadeja 84* 124 74

Day 1 is precarious as each side has its moments.

At Old Trafford, where teams that choose to field first have historically performed poorly in Test matches, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss earlier in the day and chose to bowl first.

India replaced Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Akash Deep with Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur, and Anshul Kamboj in their starting lineup. Conversely, England substituted Liam Dawson for the injured Shoaib Bashir.

India started the morning session strong, finishing at 78 without a loss at lunchtime. KL In cloudy conditions, Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal effectively handled the new ball. Nevertheless, in the second session, England put up a fierce fight. After Rahul went out for 46, Jaiswal scored his 12th Test fifty and his eighth against England before being bowled out by Dawson for 58. Additionally, Indian skipper Shubman Gill was removed by his opponent Stokes after reaching 12 runs.

India was at 149 for three at the tea break. The innings was then steadied by Pant and Sudharsan, who established a vital fifty-run partnership and set the stage for a respectable first-innings total.
