According to reports, Rishabh Pant, the wicketkeeper-batter and vice captain of India, will miss the rest of the England Test series due to a fractured toe he suffered during the fourth Test in Manchester. Doctors have recommended that Pant have at least six weeks off to recuperate from the injury, which happened on Day 1 of the game at Old Trafford. As a result, he may miss the current fourth Test and the subsequent fifth Test at The Oval.
When the injury happened, Rishabh Pant was batting on 37 at the time. The southpaw tried a calculated reverse sweep against pacer Chris Woakes in the 68th over of India’s innings. He felt agony as soon as the ball struck his right foot after taking a slight under-edge. Pany fell to the ground in agony, dropped his bat, removed his gloves, and gestured to the dressing room.
Rishabh Pant was in pain and unable to bear any weight on his foot when the physiotherapist checked it. Notably, his sock showed obvious blood flow, and his foot was greatly swollen. The batter was eventually carried off the pitch in a buggy. Pant was later transferred to a neighbouring hospital for scans, as confirmed by the BCCI. The 27-year-old has been out for at least six weeks after a senior official told The Indian Express that the MRI results indicated a fracture in the toe.
According to the scan report, he has a fracture and will be sidelined for six weeks. The medical staff is attempting to determine whether he may resume batting by administering a pain reliever. He still requires assistance to get by, and his batting prospects appear to be pretty poor,” a BCCI source told The Indian Express.
Rishabh Pant is anticipated to be replaced by Dhruv Jurel in the final test.
India, already beset by a string of injuries, including the exclusion of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh, is now further hampered by yet another injury. Dhruv Jurel is anticipated to be included in the starting lineup for the final Test as a wicketkeeping option as Pant is out. He cannot, however, bat in Rishabh Pant place per to ICC regulations until a concussion substitute is made.
With 462 runs, the second-highest total for India in the series, Rishabh Pant has been in outstanding form throughout the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. His knock at Lord’s and his twin hundreds at Leeds had kept India in the game. After Jaiswal and Gill were out, his 72-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan kept the innings steady even in Manchester. With Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, India finished Day 1 at 264/4. Early on Day 2, England is anticipated to take the second new ball.
