‘To recover that quickly and then move the way he did’- Rishabh Pant receives praises from Ravi Shastri for his great T20 World Cup

Former India captain and head coach Ravi Shastri praised Rishabh Pant for his T20 World Cup performance. Due to a terrifying vehicle accident, the keeper-batter lost 16 months of competitive cricket. He returned for the 2024 Indian Premier League. There were questions about whether the 26-year-old would make the Indian team for the Twenty20 World Cup, but he shocked everyone by hitting 446 runs in 13 matches in the lucrative competition.

During the T20 World Cup, Rishabh Pant batted third for India and made significant hits against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Ireland. Shastri, meanwhile, spoke on Pant’s amazing road to recovery from the injury and mentioned that, although he must have felt pressure at one point, he was thrilled to see him perform well for the national team.

“He performed well with the bat, but what truly shocked everyone was his keeping.” It is remarkable for someone to heal so rapidly and then move in such a manner. It’s not easy to come back and do all the stuff he did, so he must have felt pressure as the tournament progressed, but he scarcely missed anything, Shastri told ICC.

Rishabh Pant hasn’t yet returned in the ODI format, though. Currently, he is included in the ODI team for the series against Sri Lanka, however he was not selected for the starting lineup.

Given that KL Rahul performed admirably for India in the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Rohit Sharma-led team supported him for the keeping position. Pant will probably have a lengthy tenure in the team, thus the cricketer will have to wait for someone to falter before making a comeback.

The middle order did not perform well in the opening ODI against Sri Lanka; if this pattern persists, Pant will be taken into consideration moving ahead. If Mumbai-born cricketer Shreyas Iyer does not impress, he can come in for him in the playing XI and bat at number four.
