Rishabh Pant, an Indian batsman and wicketkeeper, will not play in the forthcoming home series against the West Indies, which starts on October 2. The cricket player reportedly missed India’s first home series in the current World Test Championship cycle 2025–27 because he suffered a toe fracture during the July England tour and hasn’t fully recovered to play cricket.
At the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Rishabh Pant is now recovering from his injuries.
He might not play in the two-match series against the Caribbean team, but he might be well enough to play in the next home match against the current WTC champions, South Africa. Two Test matches will be part of the multi-format trip, and they will be contested in the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Dhurv Jurel is the primary pick to take over as wicketkeeper when Rishabh Pant is not available, with Narayan Jagadeesan perhaps filling in as a backup. In the first unofficial Test match against Australia A, Jurel put on a fantastic batting display and scored a stunning century in a tie in Lucknow, demonstrating his excellent form.
On September 24, the team will be selected.
Note that Shubman Gill is anticipated to captain the Indian team in the September 24 meeting of the All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee, which is chaired by Ajit Agarkar, to choose the 15-man roster for the forthcoming home match. For those who are unaware, there is discussion among Indian cricketers regarding Shreyas Iyer’s selection in the series.
Additionally, Pant is the team’s vice captain, thus his absence creates a significant leadership gap in the Indian locker room. Since Jasprit Bumrah is not involved, KL Rahul is the most likely candidate to be Gill’s temporary deputy. The opening Test match of the series will take place at Ahmedabad’s massive Narendra Modi Stadium. After that, the two sides will go to New Delhi for the series’ second and last game.
