Rishabh Pant, a wicketkeeper-batter, is renowned for his flamboyant on-field demeanour, particularly when batting. In addition to having little trouble getting the ball over the boundary lines, his amusing style of cricket occasionally involves his bat taking the airborne route by slipping when trying a cunning leg-side stroke. During the Edgbaston Test, the dynamic hitter experienced another incident where the bat slipped from his grasp.
In a recent chat following the second Test, Rishabh Pant discussed the event and immediately stated that he is unsure of the cause of his inability to maintain a solid grip on the bat while attempting the variety of strokes he has in his armour. For Rishabh Pant, the key is always to let the bat fly through the air and not to dwell too much on the consequences of scoring runs.
Personally, I don’t give that much thought. Meanwhile, man, it simply happens to me when I’m in the moment. Everything happens at that instant, and I’m not too preoccupied with wondering how it’s occurring. In an interview with Sky Sports, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik said, “It’s just about letting it flow.”
Karthik then asked Rishabh Pant what he was thinking as he stepped across the crease.
In essence, he aimed to read the Haridwar-born player’s mind about the type of play he would adopt while he was still relatively new to the field. Before actually batting, the middle-order batter said he gets to watch a lot of deliveries, which helps him plan and get ready.
When I’m sitting out, I usually watch a few balls, come up with a broad plan, and then see how the wicket is performing overall. You learn about the bowlers’ strategies and bowling techniques while you’re sitting outside. Once you have that, you can play a few balls, feel the wicket, and then create a basic plan to figure it out,” he continued.
So far, Rishabh Pant performance in the series has been outstanding. The top cricketer gave India the advantage with the bat by scoring hundreds in both innings (134 and 117) of the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Ben Duckett’s outstanding 149 in the fourth innings, however, allowed the home team to win the game. In the remaining games of the series, Pant, who is also the Indian team’s vice captain, will try to make a similar contribution and lead the team to success.
