Rishabh Pant attributes DC’s poor playoff prospects to their ban, saying they “had a better chance of qualifying if I played.”

The captain, Rishabh Pant, accused the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of causing his team’s one-match suspension, which he felt cost them a postseason berth. For the Delhi Capitals (DC), the ongoing IPL 2024 season has been a rollercoaster, and their chances of making the playoffs are virtually nonexistent.

DC defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 19 runs, controlling the controllable. With just 14 points and a subpar net run rate (NRR) of -0.377, their prospects of making the playoffs are mostly dependent on other outcomes. Pant is questioning the BCCI’s decision to punish him because to the circumstances surrounding his slow over-rate offence against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

“If I had participated in the game, I don’t think we would have won hands-down. In the post-match interview, Pant stated, “But if I had been able to play in the last game, we had a better chance of qualifying.”

Inconsistency and injuries to important players like Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and David Warner had already ruined DC’s season, therefore Pant’s absence was felt.

“I would say the start of the season was with a lot of hopes, some injuries,” he said.

Although Delhi won their last league game of the season, they have very little chance of making the playoffs. In order to guarantee a position, they would need to remove the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and the Gujarat Titans (GT), who are already out of the competition.

In order to start batting first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), DC will need to win the toss. They also need to defeat SRH by a minimum of 100 runs and score at least 200.
