The captain of Australia, Pat Cummins, has spoken out over Rishabh Pant’s influence in Test cricket. Pant had his chances because of an injury-plagued team, even though the keeper-batter was not a first-choice player in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the Sydney Test, the young player took advantage of the opportunity to secure his place in the red-ball squad by scoring 97 runs in the second innings.
In the fourth Test, he played a knock for the record books at Gabba, helping India win the series 2-1. In his seven Test appearances in Australia, Pant has amassed 624 runs at an average of 62.40. He’s one of the top red-ball hitters in Indian history and has been incredibly reliable in the longest format.
Pant, in Cummins’ opinion, has the X-factor and can help India in the middle order. They never know which version of Pant will show up on the pitch, the star pacer remarked, and praised the 29-year-old for his humour behind the wickets.
“The last time, Rishabh Pant had a fantastic series here in Australia.
He always has a little bit of that middle order X-factor. Even as the opposition, you never know exactly what you’re going to receive, which is thrilling. As he spoke exclusively at Star Sports’ Press Room Border-Gavaskar Trophy Special, Cummins said, “He’s very funny, makes me laugh, and he’s always got something to say behind the stumps.”

Cameron Green, an all-rounder for Australia, recently had surgery to treat a stress fracture that has prevented him from competing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In his remarks, Cummins said that the squad will greatly miss his contributions as a fielder and all-around player.

“We are really saddened by the passing of Cam Green. We will truly miss him because, in addition to his batting prowess, he is maybe the best gully fielding I have ever seen. He is also a fantastic bowler that we need,” Cummins remarked.
