Rinku Singh recalls iconic winning shot in India’s victory over Pakistan

Rinku Singh, who made his Asia Cup debut and instantly displayed his finishing ability by hitting the first ball he faced for a boundary, was another noteworthy player in the final. India won the Asia Cup 2025 title in Dubai on Sunday after defeating Pakistan by five wickets. This match was competitive, in contrast to their previous two tournament meetings, as Pakistan fought hard against the Men in Blue.

India got into difficulties early, losing three wickets for just 20 runs while chasing a goal of 147. But Tilak Varma, who scored 69 runs and kept the chase going, had an outstanding performance.  Rinku Singh came to the crease and delivered under duress, striking a boundary to give India the victory with two balls remaining when the equation was down to one run needed from three balls.

Rinku Singh emphasised the importance of his position in a post-match statement, saying he had to create an impression from the first delivery he encountered.

“Everything else is irrelevant. This one ball counts. They needed one. I hit a four with it. I am known to be a finisher.

After the win,  Rinku Singh informed the host broadcasters, “I am really happy that the team won.”

Sanju Samson (24) and Shivam Dube (33 off 21) brilliantly supported Tilak, who had fallen to 20/3 in the first five overs before his game-changing 69 not out off 53 helped India chase down 147 in 19.4 overs.

The match itself and the off-field activities that preceded it contributed to the tremendous intensity in the final. However, the Indian squad, captained by Gautam Gambhir and spearheaded by Suryakumar Yadav, stepped up to the plate and showed incredible bravery under duress.

Pakistan’s lower order was reduced to nine wickets for just 33 runs by Kuldeep Yadav, who created havoc with the ball and concluded the tournament with 17 wickets. Tilak’s exceptional composure under duress, which demonstrated both technique and temperament, proved to be the decisive element in India’s chase during the top-order collapse.
