Ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Indian cricketer Rinku Singh feels he is versatile enough to be used in more than just finishing roles. After missing the home T20I series against South Africa, he has won a recall to the national team and is anticipated to play a big part in the upcoming weeks.
14 of Rinku Singh 24 T20I innings have been at No. 6 or lower, indicating that he has mostly batted in the lower middle order. He has, however, occasionally been further up the order and had promising outcomes. He averages 49 at No. 4 and 40.86 at No. 5 over a total of 11 innings in Twenty20 Internationals. In 13 innings in the No. 5 spot in the IPL, he had an outstanding average of 45.22 and a strike rate of 145.36.
“People perceive me more as a ‘finisher’ in the position where I often bat, but I don’t think I can exclusively play that role. I am able to bat wherever. In both domestic cricket and for India, I have batted in the powerplay.
Rinku Singh told the Times of India, “I’ve scored all three of my fifties in the powerplay.”
In 2024, he scored his final T20I fifty in the second game of the home series against Bangladesh. Additionally, he discussed the significance of being a member of the current Indian T20 team, particularly during a period when competition for spots is perhaps at an all-time high.
“When their name is mentioned, everyone feels happy. It is crucial to join Team India. Participating in the World Cup on behalf of the nation is fate. A player’s exclusion is typically the result of team combinations. Sometimes a player doesn’t receive a spot because the combinations don’t work out,” Rinku Singh remarked.
“Preferred team combinations are responsible for a lot of things. It’s not necessary to worry,” Rinku Singh remarked.
He played in five Twenty20 Internationals in 2025, although he was unable to bat in two of the games. He scored the winning runs in the Asia Cup final in 2025, which was his most recent innings. Despite the few opportunities, the player maintains that these circumstances are not as discouraging as they might seem and feels that his omissions were mostly caused by team combinations.
