Sourav Ganguly, president of the BCCI and a former captain of India, was thrilled with his country’s team for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. Calling it one of the most equitable teams the selectors could have chosen, he also offered his condolences to Rinku Singh. The hitter from Aligarh, who was one of the favourites to join the squad before the IPL, did not, as he was picked as one of the travelling reserves.
Sourav Ganguly anticipates that Rinku will play a major role for the national team because he thinks he still has a lot of cricket left in him.
He acknowledged that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee placed a premium on selecting an extra spinner, which can be useful given the West Indies’ spin-friendly conditions, but he still understood the decision to omit the 26-year-old.
This has got to be among the fairest teams I’ve ever seen. Not because I think other teams are unfair. In my opinion, Rohit and the selectors did an excellent job choosing this squad. I believe Rinku was left out because they preferred to utilise a different spinner. Nevertheless, Rinku is waiting, so good luck. Rinku’s career is only getting started. He will be a major player for India. This shouldn’t depress him, in my opinion. However, I believe that this is a very good team—a powerful team— Ganguly told reporters in Kolkata.

Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant were the subjects of numerous conversations. Chahal, who is not under BCCI’s central contract and thus not included in the T20 scheme of things, has performed admirably in the IPL 2024 thus far, which has helped him break into the 15-man squad. Samson and Pant have also performed incredibly well to join the team.
As he is unsure of the circumstances in the USA, captain Rohit said he hasn’t yet confirmed the playing XI. He did, however, leave the option open to play one additional spinner if necessary.
