The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be up for grabs when India and Australia play a five-match Test series later this year. Ricky Ponting, a legendary Australian, recommended that India include Khaleel Ahmed on the tour to give their seam-bowling attack additional variation.
In the current World Test Championship (WTC) standings, Australia is ranked second and India is ranked first, respectively. When they played in the previous cycle’s finals the previous year, Australia won handily. On the other hand, in their past two Test series played in Australia, India won. Australia will have an opportunity to win back the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the forthcoming match, having lost it in 2017.
Ricky Ponting, a former Australian captain, believed that having a left-arm pacer may be very beneficial for the tourists, and he backed Khaleel to be included in India’s side for the eagerly awaited tour.
“I think someone like Khaleel Ahmed might end up going on the Test tour.” A left-armer would be perfect for them to have in their touring team, Ponting told ICC review. “I know he was just over in Zimbabwe and played that (T20I) series over there.”
The speedster for the Delhi Capitals has taken 25 wickets at an economy of 2.95 and an average of 35 from 12 first-class matches. In addition, the 26-year-old has two career four-wicket hauls. But he still hasn’t received his first Test cap. He has taken 15 and 16 wickets in 11 ODI and 18 T20I matches thus far.
Ponting also expressed his admiration for the three-man speed attack of Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah from India, who would be hoping to challenge the Australian hitters with their flawless techniques.
Mohammed: “(Shami) will be well again by then, (Siraj) will undoubtedly be somewhere, and (Jasprit) Bumrah is certainly not going anywhere. Therefore, Ponting said, both sides would field a very good lineup.
