Ricky Ponting says England will aim to bat just once on challenging Manchester pitch

Ricky Ponting believed that as the game went on, it would be difficult to bat on the Old Trafford surface, which had already begun to deteriorate. England should aim to bat through Day 3 of the fourth Test match against India and amass a first-innings total that would allow them to bat just once during the match, according to former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. On the second day, England finished at Stumps on 225/2 in 46 overs.

“This game is slipping away incredibly fast if they don’t take early wickets today (Day 3).” On a pitch, we witnessed Jadeja turn a couple late yesterday afternoon (Day 2) due to the sunshine. Late in the game, it won’t become much easier to bat on. Therefore, I’m sure that England would have considered the prospect of only batting once in this Test match before going to bed yesterday night. Ponting stated on Sky Sports, “They’ll want to bat long today, get through the day, and get a huge first innings total.”

India must figure out how to rejoin the match: Ponting

In order to prevent England from winning the match easily, the former Australian captain also thought it would be best for the visitors if they could take early wickets on the third day.

Even just considering the batting conditions today, England clearly defeated it yesterday.

and we can observe how much the wicket and circumstances change from the morning session to the afternoon. Therefore, it is unlikely that batting conditions will improve from their current state. Two excellent players are at the crease. “India must figure out a way to get back into this game early today,” Ponting continued. r

During the first 46 overs of their innings, England scored at a respectable pace. Together, Ben Duckett (94 off 100) and Zak Crawley (84 off 113) created a 166-run partnership for the first wicket. Before the third day, they were only 133 runs down and had already taken eight wickets.
