Australia recorded an outstanding victory over England in the first Test of the Ashes 2023 series. With only two wickets separating the two teams, Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, guided his team to a brilliant victory. The verbal altercation between Usman Khawaja and Ollie Robinson was one of the most talked-about aspects of the game. Robinson insulted Khawaja after dismissing him in the first inning, and Khawaja retaliated on the fifth day of the match. Robinson, recalling his verbal altercation, mentioned former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and opined that Ponting and the entire Australian team used to ridicule the English team in the past.
Ricky Ponting responded to the pacer’s remarks by stating that he found it odd that Robinson had mentioned his name and that the English pacer should be focused on the current situation.
Ricky Ponting stated on the ICC Review podcast, “As I said after Ollie Robinson said what he said, this England cricket team has not played against Australia, and they’ll find out pretty quickly what playing Ashes cricket and playing against a good Australian cricket team is all about.”
“And if Ollie Robinson hasn’t realised that by the end of last week, he’s a sluggish learner,. Some of the things he had to say—he even mentioned my name, which I thought was a bit odd—but for me, it’s like water off a duck’s back,” he added.

“It’s no wonder he bowled as poorly as he did in that game if he’s fretting over what I did 15 years ago if he’s sat back and thinking about me. “He’ll learn pretty quickly that if you’re going to talk to Australian cricketers during an Ashes series, you’d better have the skills to back it up,” Ponting said.
