After the England and Wales Cricket Board‘s rules underwent a significant modification, Richard Thompson was reappointed as Chairman. According to the ECB’s Articles of Association, which saw a change to the eligibility condition earlier this year, a person can now serve as Chairman of the board for two periods of up to three years each, instead of the previous five-year limit.
Richard Thompson was supposed to serve as the ECB’s chairman until September 2027 after being elected in 2022. His first tenure ended as a result of the rule modification. In a similar vein, Thompson’s second term will begin shortly and conclude in September 2027. Thompson wants cricket to become the nation’s most inclusive sport.
Richard Thompson appreciates the ECB’s ongoing trust.
Richard Thompson was honoured to remain in the position after being unanimously chosen for a second consecutive term. He pledged to inspire communities while collaborating closely with the board’s stakeholders. He was appreciative that you trusted him enough to keep working.
Being able to continue serving the game I’m so passionate about makes me feel honoured. I’ll keep working together with our stakeholders to create a game that genuinely reflects and inspires our communities, whether that means increasing participation and dismantling barriers or offering support to our professional game and England teams. Richard Thompson expressed his gratitude to the Board for their trust and to the cricket community for their unwavering support.
In her remarks, ECB Senior Independent Director Katie Bickerstaffe described Thompson as a well-respected person. He concurred that the board’s larger community supports the chairman and expressed the expectation that he will guide the ECB through a time of significant global change.
“Throughout the game, Richard is treated with respect. “The Board and the broader cricket community fully support his agenda to lead cricket through a period of global transformation, grow and unite the game, and become the most inclusive team sport,” she said.
