After being rested for the April–May tri-series in Sri Lanka, veteran all-rounder Marizanne Kapp has been selected for South Africa’s white-ball teams for their tour of the West Indies next month. In December, Kapp made his final appearance for his country during the home series against England. She hasn’t played in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) since March, at least not in competitive cricket. Prior to the crucial Women’s ODI World Cup in September and October, the 35-year-old will try to get some match practice in the Caribbean.
Additionally, South Africa has seven fast-bowling options in the West Indies with to the recall of seamers Tumi Sekhukhune and Ayanda Hlubi, who did not play in the Sri Lanka tri-series.
After participating in the tri-series, leg-spinner Seshnie Naidu and top-order batsman Lara Goodall were not kept. Despite Anneke Bosch’s ongoing absence, it was intriguing to see Goodall left out. ESPNcricinfo reports that the latter is still recovering after being ruled out of the Sri Lanka series due to illness.
Left-arm spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba, off-spinner Nondumiso Shangase, seasoned all-rounders Chloe Tryon and Sune Luus, and 20-year-old all-rounder Miane Smit, who made her ODI debut in Sri Lanka, are the five spin-bowling alternatives selected by South Africa. In the Caribbean, she was able to earn her first T20I cap. The West Indies’ surfaces are supposed to assist spinners, and the visitors can benefit greatly from having a diverse range of tweakers in the roster.
On June 11, 14, and 17, South Africa will travel to Barbados to play Hayley Matthews and company in three One-Day Internationals. Three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) will follow on June 20, 22, and 23 at the same location.
