Rohit Sharma

India did not win the ODI World Cup, despite their outstanding performance in the tournament. This was due to their subpar batting display on the final night. Nonetheless, Rohit Sharma has received praise for both his bold style of cricket during the tournament and for leading the team as captain. But now that the World Cup is over, BCCI officials are excited to lay out the future plan.

As of right now, Rohit Sharma and the officials are scheduled to talk about his intentions for white-ball cricket. In 2021, the opener assumed the job of captain, with the primary responsibility of assisting India in their successful participation in the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. Although Rahul Dravid was named interim head coach, the team was unable to win either of the trophies. As a result, BCCI’s current strategy is to learn more about Rohit’s future and make a decision regarding India’s future course.

According to people close to The Times of India, Rohit Sharma has already told Ajit Agarkar, the head selector, and other officials that he is okay not being picked for the Twenty20 Internationals.

But for the 36-year-old, winning the ODI World Cup has always been his goal. Rohit will be forty by the time the tournament returns, so he could have to sit this one out.

Still, the Nagpur native may want to think about it because the Champions Trophy comes in two years. He can develop a younger player in the interim, but BCCI might consider other options given Hardik’s propensity for injuries.

As of right now, it appears that Rohit Sharma will devote a significant amount of his attention to the test format for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle, which runs through 2025. A major item on the agenda is grooming a captain for the longer formats. Selectors might search for alternatives in ODIs because Hardik Pandya is prone to ailments, a source told The Times of India.
