According to a report from The Indian Express, star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav is slated to captain the Men in Blue in the forthcoming five-match Twenty20I series against Australia, which starts in Vizag on November 23 and ends in Bengaluru on December 3. This choice is based on Hardik Pandya’s availability because of an injury he suffered during the present World Cup of Men’s Cricket. The senior national selection committee of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) will soon reveal the team for the series.

The top-ranked T20I batter in the world has previously led India’s T20I team as vice captain during their West Indies tour, which included five games played in the US and the Caribbean. Because Pandya’s ankle injury might not fully heal, the selection committee, under the direction of Ajit Agarkar, is leaning toward selecting the 33-year-old as captain.

As the Indian Cricket Board realized that Pandya would probably need at least two months to fully recuperate from the ankle injury, rumors of Suryakumar Yadav taking over as captain began to circulate. He may therefore miss three Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals against South Africa, and it’s still uncertain if surgery is required.

Having captained both the Mumbai team and the India Under-23 squad in the Emerging Cup a few years ago, Suryakumar Yadav has previous leadership experience.

Known for his all-around play style, he has quickly become one of the world’s most dangerous hitters in the shortest game format. However, he hasn’t been very good in the 50-over format, scoring just 88 runs in six games with a strike rate of 114.28 and an average of 17.60 in the current competition.

Most of the players competing in the current World Cup will be rested, according to the selection committee. Notably, on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India will play Australia in the World Cup final. It is anticipated that players who have seen little action in the major tournament, such as Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna, will play in the Twenty20 International series against Australia.
