Since Rahul Dravid announced his intention to resign as the Indian team’s head coach, the BCCI and the former cricket player are probably going to split ways. Notably, Dravid took over as captain following the 2021 T20 World Cup, and with his guidance, India advanced to the 2023 ODI World Cup final and the World Test Championship Final. He is hesitant to sign a new contract, though, as his current one expired following the subcontinental super event.
Former cricketer VVS Laxman, who is also in charge of the national team for the forthcoming five-match series against Australia, has stood in for him on several occasions during his absence. Laxman will be given the opportunity to become the head coach of the Indian cricket team in the event that Dravid decides not to extend his contract. The 49-year-old was previously employed at Sunrisers Hyderabad before taking over as NCA chief in 2021.

But according to The Times of India, Rahul Dravid has already informed BCCI representatives that he intends to resign from his position as head coach of the national team.
Remarkably, the former cricket player never showed any enthusiasm for the part. After observing his track record of achievement during his tenure as NCA chief, Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI chairman at the time, offered him the position and requested that he sign a two-year contract. Despite his initial reluctance, Dravid ultimately decided to play for the national team for two years because he wanted to spend more time with his family. VVS Laxman was offered the position of NCA chief while he was away.
VVS Laxman visited BCCI representatives in Ahmedabad during the ODI World Cup and has previously stated his intention to take over as head coach. Additionally, a source verified that he will be named head coach prior to the South Africa series.
VVS Laxman has indicated how excited he is about the position. Laxman went to Ahmedabad during the World Cup to speak with the BCCI’s top executives in this respect. This will be his first tour of South Africa as the full-time head coach of squad India. He is expected to sign a long-term contract in that role, and he will undoubtedly go with the squad in that capacity, a trustworthy BCCI source told TOI.
