Rehan Ahmed values county cricket more than his first home Test match

Rehan Ahmed, the young leg-spinner for England, said that he is right now more concerned with doing well for Leicestershire in the forthcoming County Championship than he is with making his possible home Test debut. During England’s Test series against Pakistan in 2022, Ahmed rose to prominence as the team’s youngest men’s cricket player to take five wickets in his first innings. With 11 wickets in three Test matches, he looked impressive in England’s most recent 4-1 series loss to India.

When discussing the upcoming season, Rehan Ahmed stated that he is not worried about reaching any particular goals. He emphasised that he wanted to improve as a batsman and make a big difference for Leicestershire with the ball as well.

“What I’m aiming to do this year isn’t really important to me. I have made every effort to fully commit to myself. Because I enjoy batting and I’ve underperformed, I might do so by getting my overs in or by scoring as many runs as I can.

The Times of India cited Rehan Ahmed as saying, “I want to bat better.”

Rehan Ahmed is still dedicated to county cricket, even with England’s next fixtures against the West Indies and Sri Lanka, as well as the eagerly anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

“I will immediately start playing county cricket. In my absence from the England team, Leicester comes first,” he continued.

The 19-year-old acknowledged that the English early season has challenges, particularly for spinners. He acknowledged that his bowling was a little lacking and emphasised the need to modify his approach and take advantage of bowling opportunities in both training and games.

“I’ve been a little lacking in bowling in matches. I’ve bowled a lot of white ball; I haven’t bowled a tonne of red ball overs, and April means we’ll be cutting corners. “In training, I’ll be bowling a lot,” he said.
