He is captaining his team in the 17th league season, making history as one of the league’s youngest captains. Thus far in the league, GT has had a mixed record. They were down and out at one point in the season’s opening game. They surprised the audience by returning when no one had anticipated.

GT was playing at home against SRH in the second match of the tournament in 2023. The great opener struck a fantastic century, his second in the IPL, on a pitch that proved difficult to bat on.
