When he is ready to play, Travis Head will start: George Bailey

When he is fully fit again, Travis Head will bat in the top order, according to Australia’s chief selector George Bailey. This suggests that Mitchell Marsh, who scored a century alongside David Warner against Pakistan in a record-breaking partnership, will likely bat lower down the order.

Head will join the team in Delhi ahead of Australia‘s ODI World Cup match against the Netherlands. Head suffered a hand injury while batting in Australia’s fourth ODI match against South Africa.

“Travis Head clearly enters at the top. He has been wonderful for us there, and that is where he will fit in. Bailey was quoted by Cricbuzz as saying, “And then we’ll just figure out (the Playing XI) when it is, who we’re playing, the surface and what you might need.”

According to Bailey, Travis Head has come a long way and it “is okay” if he bats down the line during his comeback.

“The injury may last six to eight weeks. He passed the four-week scan with flying colors, the bone has mended, everything is good, and he has made great improvement this week (since he started batting).

However, it is obvious that the goal of having him (on the WC squad) and carrying him to this stage was not to subsequently put his safety at danger by sending him home too soon. So, that’s terrific if it works out for that Dutch game. It’s alright if it’s a little further along, Bailey continued.

Marcus Stoinis might be left off the starting lineup if Head plays and Marsh moves back to his old No. 3 position. Bailey said that Stoinis has been outstanding for the Kangaroos thus far in the competition when speaking about the same.

“Stoin’ brought a really great energy with his bowling and a couple of really key breakthroughs to get everyone up and going, and he made a nice catch as well,” he continued.
