Malolan Rangarajan, the spin bowling coach for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), discussed the advantages of having Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya play together for the squad in the 2025 Indian Premier League. On April 24, the Bengaluru-based team defeated the Rajasthan Royals for the first time at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, securing their place atop the points table.
While Suyash went wicketless against the Royals, Pandya took two wickets. Nevertheless, RCB won the game by 11 runs. They are only two games away from a nearly certain spot in the current edition’s playoffs. The team appears prepared to compete fiercely against the other teams this time.
Suyash’s bowling and his ability to snare hitters in crucial times were explained by Rangarajan. He cited examples when the bowler got rid of Andre Russell (against KKR) and Josh Inglis (against PBKS), giving the side much-needed breakthroughs at pivotal points in the match.
“I believe Suyash has a significant advantage. We believe that his ability to beat the bat on both edges is one of his super-strengths, along with his quickness. By dismissing Josh Inglis, who was out of bat, he demonstrated that. Russell was dismissed through the batter. He does, therefore, turn the ball. His special strength is his ability to bowl at a very high speed, turn the ball, and beat the bat on all edges. Furthermore, his behaviour is odd in its own right. In a news conference prior to the game, RCB’s spin-bowling coach Malolan Rangarajan stated, “So, that makes it slightly tough for the batter to read.”
Krunal Pandya‘s shift in bowling technique
Rangarajan also discussed Pandya and how his bowling action has improved. With 12 wickets in nine games this season, it is clear that Pandya has been in outstanding form, particularly with the ball. In the IPL, captain Rajat Patidar has made good use of the bowler.
“If you watched Krunal Pandya’s films from 2016 or 2017–18, you would see that he did something quite different. He has practiced his action. Rangarajan continued, “His release is significantly different from what it was, maybe even two years ago.
When RCB plays the Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the spin pair will be primed to show off their skills once more. The team will try to continue its winning streak on Sunday as they are currently undefeated away from home.
