Despite having a good start to the third season with two convincing victories, RCB finished fourth in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, failing to successfully retain their title. Their dreams of making it to the playoffs were dashed, though, with five straight losses in the middle of the competition.
To avoid finishing at the bottom of the standings, the team captained by Smriti Mandhana defeated the Mumbai Indians by 11 runs on Tuesday, March 11.
RCB victory also prevented their bitter rivals, Mumbai, from securing a direct trip to the summit match.
Bengaluru’s seasoned all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who took two wickets and struck an undefeated 49 in Tuesday’s thrilling match, lamented some close losses in the tournament’s middle stretch.
“We’ve had a challenging season. We closed on a high note with another victory tonight after starting with some extremely impressive wins. It’s a little disheartening, though, because we lost a few close games in between and had a couple performances that fell short of our expectations. However, Perry stated on JioHotstar, “It has been a really fun season in a fantastic competition.”
“It has been an amazing experience to play for RCB, especially because of the supporters.” We have received amazing support, especially in Bengaluru, but it has also been fun to have supporters show up at various locations. Although choosing a favourite location is difficult, Chinnaswamy Stadium holds unique meaning for us. But playing in Mumbai and Lucknow also brought a lot of variation, and the matches in Baroda at the beginning of the season were fantastic. It’s been great to move the competition to different locations, and I hope spectators have had fun attending the games,” she continued.
On the points table, the Royal Challengers came in barely ahead of UP Warriorz. On Saturday, March 15, the Delhi Capitals, who advanced to the finals, will take on the victor of the eliminator between the Gujarat Giants and Mumbai.
