Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting coach and mentor Dinesh Karthik claimed that the former India captain is currently in his happiest position, despite the fact that supporters are still processing the historic choice made by Kohli. The former cricket player for India stated that since he will only be playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the 50-over format, Kohli wants to spend more time with his family.
Virat Kohli’s Instagram post announcing his retirement from Test cricket caught the cricket community off guard. Due to his abrupt retirement, the selectors had to find a suitable substitute for the renowned cricketer, who was scheduled to play in a high-stakes five-match Test series against England. A player like Kohli, though, cannot be replaced quickly.
“We were just watching what Virat was doing since it was a shock to the outer world. Speaking ahead of RCB’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday, May 23, Dinesh Karthik stated, “I am at my happiest right now—I’m enjoying the sport, and I really want to spend more time with my family.”
“We accept that it’s a personal choice. We were as surprised as everyone else (‘Oh, this is happening.’). In actuality, though, it’s wonderful to watch him content and prepared to play anytime we want him to. Maintaining his positive attitude is crucial,” he continued.
RCB defeats SRH in combat.
After losing to SRH on Friday, RCB wasted an opportunity to climb to the top of the IPL 2025 points standings. Ishan Kishan’s undefeated 94 off 48 deliveries helped the Orange Army, who were selected to bat first, reach a massive 231/5.
Virat Kohli and Phil Salt shared an 80-run partnership in seven overs during the second innings. But the latter was out for 43 from 25 balls. In contrast, Salt scored 62 runs off of 32 balls. RCB was in the chase until the fifteenth over, but their chances of a spectacular victory were dashed during a five-ball stretch in which they lost three wickets. The captain took three wickets for 28 runs during his four-over spell, helping the Pat Cummins-led team win by 42 runs.
