Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Ravindra Jadeja will still be taken into consideration for selection in the future and has not been removed from the ODI lineup. The former cricket player claimed that since Axar Patel and Jadeja provide nearly identical services, it would have been useless to include both of them on a quick trip to Sri Lanka.
In all three game types, Ravindra Jadeja has been a vital member of the squad and performed admirably in both the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Agarkar emphasised that the selection panel chose to give him a rest since it wouldn’t have been fair to rotate him with Axar during the forthcoming ODI series.
Agarkar also discussed how Jadeja’s workload may be managed during the ten Test matches that India has coming up, five of which will be played at home against Australia and Bangladesh and the other five against New Zealand later in the year.
“I believe it would have been completely unnecessary to have both Axar and him (Jadeja) in this brief series. We are aware of Jaddu’s actions. He’s not dropped at all because he had an amazing World Cup and the 50 World Cup. Though, if we had to cast a vote, I believe that both of them would have participated in all three games. That was the issue, then. He would probably play in many of the upcoming Tests because it is going to be a big Test season, Agarkar stated at the news conference.
Three games wouldn’t have mattered, in my opinion. After the selection, we ought to have made it clear that he wouldn’t be let go. He continued, “He’s still very important in the grand scheme of things.”

On Monday, July 22, the Indian team and the support personnel will depart for Sri Lanka. Ryan ten Doeschate, the recently hired assistant coach, will immediately report to the team in Sri Lanka.
