Ravindra Jadeja dedicates Instagram post to mother: 'Whatever I'm doing on the pitch, it’s an homage to you'

On July 16, 2024, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja of Team India shared a touching homage to his mother on social media. Jadeja, who was part of the Indian squad that won the T20 World Cup, posted an endearing drawing. In front of the Indian tricolour, the portrait showed him clutching the T20 World Cup trophy with his mother at his side.

The dynamic all-round player reportedly had a tense relationship with his father, but he was very close to his mother, Lata Jadeja. While Jadeja was playing cricket for India’s Under-19 team in 2005, he tragically lost his mother at the young age of 17. Later, under Virat Kohli’s direction, this squad won the 2008 U-19 World Cup.

A day after India defeated South Africa in the Barbados final to win the T20 World Cup 2024, Jadeja announced his retirement from T20 Internationals. His retirement came after that of former T20I captain Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli, who both declared during the post-match press conference that they were hanging up their boots shortly after India had defeated the Proteas by seven runs in Barbados.

Ravindra Jadejais still anticipated to play a significant role in India’s ODI and Test teams, though. He is expected to play in the upcoming international matches when India travels to Sri Lanka.

The legendary all-rounder, who made his T20I debut for India back in 2009, has said goodbye to the format after an outstanding 74-match career. During his T20I career, he scored 515 runs at an impressive average of 21.45 and claimed 54 wickets at a cost-effective rate of 7.13. Over the years, his efforts with the bat and the ball have been crucial to many of India’s victories.
