Anil Kumble, a former captain of India, lavished praise on veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for his superb crease management during the first Test against the West Indies. In particular, Ashwin shined with the ball, taking five wickets and hauling in seven over the course of the two innings as India easily won.
Ashwin made his playing XI debut against the wi and was a key component of India’s successful bowling assault. With this, former cricketer Kumble offered a novel perspective on Ashwin’s comeback and emphasized how well the latter used the crease to increase pressure on the opposing batting unit.

It’s not just about the abilities you have; it’s also about your capacity to apply pressure to the batter. Every batter from the West Indies who faced R Ashwin displayed this in their body language, Anil Kumble said on Jio Cinema.
“Ashwin made the ball go into the left-hander by bowling wide off the crease. “When Ashwin saw that (Tagenarine) Chanderpaul was anticipating the balls, he bowled a gorgeous delivery that drifted in, left him, and took the off stump,” he continued.
It is noteworthy that Ashwin, with eight ten-fors thus far, has tied Kumble’s record for the most 10-wicket hauls by an Indian in Test cricket. With 709 kills so far, he also became the third Indian, after Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, to amass 700 or more wickets in international cricket.
Team India wants to win the Test series.
The first Test was easily won by an innings and 141 runs, giving Rohit Sharma and company a 1-0 series lead. Prior to focusing on the white-ball series, the team will be aiming to win the series.
At Trinidad’s Queen’s Park Oval on Thursday, July 20, West Indies will take on India in the second Test match. To level the Test series again, the home team will need to step up their game. The two teams will play a three-match ODI series after the second red-ball match is over, and then a five-match T20I series.
