The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024–25) between Australia and India has left Test cricket fever raging on the Australian coasts. The third Test ended in a draw, while the weather continued to play possums on the last day. Former Indian cricket player and well-known pundit Ravi Shastri was among the cricket specialists who continued to talk about the game’s what-ifs and buts.
During the conversation, former Australian players Kerry O’Keeffe, also known as Skull, and Brendon Julian engaged in teasing over the widely shared “ice cream fan” incident that happened in Bangalore during a Test series between India and New Zealand. It’s interesting because Shastri, who did not hold back when creating his enormous and funny remark, was shown the viral video of the ice cream boy. While the film was playing, he noticed two Australian twins and well-known video artists, Shepmates, performing lip-synch antics on his comments.
Curiously, the incident was captured on camera, which led Ravi Shastri to assume control of the commentary box and explain the fan’s behaviour. Not only that, but he also described him as a “big unit” and produced yet another treasure. Recalling the situation for Julian and Skull, who is also renowned for his amazing sense of humour, Shastri, who is recognised for his flawless wit and comedy, seized the opportunity to quickly amuse the audience and his admirers. Shastri took it a step further while recounting the story, noting that the enormous fan would have needed “three chairs” to sit, bringing to mind the iconic “ice cream boy” moment from the Bangalore Test.
You know, he is a large unit, and this was in Bangalore. He was able to sit in three chairs. Shastri recalled the moment during the post-match discussion, telling his panel members, “It was hot and he was tucking in.”

The Ice Cream Saga took held in Bangalore, and the BGT series tied the score at one.
For those who are unaware, the “ice cream boy” event happened during the Bengaluru-based M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the first India vs. New Zealand Test. Alongside the renowned Sunil Gavaskar, commentator Ravi Shastri noticed the fan peacefully savouring the ice cream in the scorching sun. During a mid-over break, a boy was observed attempting to conceal the ice cream cone while simultaneously eating it.

“You need that ice cream.” It’s scorching. There’s someone hidden behind, though. He’s a large unit. Is the ice cream boy somewhere? “Oh,” Shastri said.
He was trying to hide his ice cream because the family might have told him not to eat it, as his other on-air companion Sunil Gavaskar delightfully pointed out to Shastri. But because he was burning hot, Shastri couldn’t help but make his clever comments.
Oh! There he is. The cone comes out. There is only the cone left after the ice cream vanished. He’s getting started on it quite rapidly.”
Sarfaraz Khan’s 150-run knock helped India mount an incredible recovery after they were bowled out for 46 runs in their opening innings during that Test. The coveted “Boxing Day” Test will begin on December 26. In the meantime, the caravan will go to Melbourne after the series is tied at one in Brisbane.
