Ravi Shastri wants Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to stay out of T20Is so that younger players can play.

Ravi Shastri, who used to be India’s head coach, wants Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to step aside for younger players in T20Is before the next T20 World Cup. During the current IPL 2023, a number of young players have stood out and are on the verge of being picked for India because of how well they have played.

With the next T20 World Cup coming up in a year, Shastri thinks that Rohit and Kohli’s form should be taken into account if they don’t rule themselves out of T20Is. The previous head coach said that the star batters were like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman when he was talking about them.

“Sachin, Rahul Dravid, Sourav, and Laxman are right where Virat and Rohit are. So you know there’s a model in front of you. If Virat and Rohit don’t rule themselves out of T20, it will come down to how they’ve been playing over the past year. “At that time, you’ll pick the best players, and experience and fitness will also matter,” Shastri was quoted as saying by ESPN cricinfo.

Ravi Shastri also said that the two Indian cricket veterans should focus on Tests and ODIs for the time being and let the younger players get the international experience they need in T20Is.

“Players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been around for a while, so you know what they’re about. I would go in the direction of giving young players a chance right now so that they can get experience and opportunities while keeping stars like Virat and Rohit Sharma fresh for ODI and Test cricket. If the kids keep playing with that much confidence and power, they will break down the door. “Play these people in the very first T20 series that comes up now, and put these guys on display,” he said.

Rohit Sharma didn’t do well in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma and Kohli have both not played a single T20I since the T20 World Cup in 2022. Kohli had a great time in the World Cup. He ended up with 296 runs, which was the most of anyone. Rohit, on the other hand, didn’t do so well. In six games, he only scored 116 runs, for an average of 19.33.

There has been a lot of discussion about integrating young players right into the Indian team before the upcoming T20 World Cup because they have dominated this year’s IPL. It will be interesting to see what the selection committee does about it. A lot of it will depend on how India does in the big events this year, like the WTC final and the upcoming ODI World Cup.
