Sai Sudharsan should be included in the Indian Test team for the Test series in England following the 2025 Indian Premier League, according to former head coach Ravi Shastri. The former cricket player who is now a broadcaster noted that the left-hander is a “class” player who is familiar with English conditions.
Interestingly, the Gujarat Titans (GT) opener has played for Surrey in the County Championship in England for the last two years. In the meantime, from June to August, India will travel to England for a five-match Test series. For the first time since losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia in 2024–25, India will don the whites.
“I see Sai Sudharsan, a young man, in all gaming modes. My eyes would undoubtedly be on him because he appears like a class player. I believe he will be at the top of my list of outsiders hoping to join this team because he is a left-hander in England, understands English conditions, and really plays with technique and style,” Shastri stated on ICC Review.
Not confined to the white-ball: Ravi Shastri
Additionally, the former Indian legend demanded that the Test team include a left-arm bowler. He recommended India not to limit the left-armer to white-ball cricket and emphasised the need to bring in Arshdeep Singh.
“A left-armer is what I’ll be searching for. Depending on which left-armer is playing well, I’ll try to fit him in as the sixth bowling option. Anyone could be the culprit. Shastri speculated that it might even be a white-ball specialist.
The idea that someone like Arshdeep Singh is a “white-ball specialist” bothers me. His red-ball record and the quantity of overs he bowls will also be closely monitored by me,” he continued.
