"Sachin Tendulkar had ants in his pants"- Ravi Shastri opens up on India's growth in training

Former India coach Ravi Shastri brought out the disparity between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar’s training approaches during the current India-New Zealand second Test match in Pune. Shastri talked about Kohli’s methodical training schedule while talking about how he approaches net sessions.

As the head coach during Kohli’s captaincy and a former player with Tendulkar in his youth, Shastri has seen firsthand the development and training regimens of both cricketing greats.

In addition to specific sessions with the support staff and bowling arms to replicate different difficult situations, Kohli’s practice sessions alternate between facing net bowlers.

Ravi Shastri, however, revealed Tendulkar’s training methodology.

“Sachin Tendulkar had a lot going on when he was younger. He would always undertake fielding drills or pick up the ball and bowl after finishing his batting in the nets. “He was too loud to be kept silent,” Shastri said during a JioCinema commentary.

The 35-year-old is renowned for his rigorous, regimented practice sessions, but Tendulkar’s approach was more natural, motivated by a contagious enthusiasm that led him to participate in other facets of the game after finishing his batting practice.

In contrast, the visitors won the toss in the current Test match and chose to bat first, scoring 259 runs in their opening inning. However, on Day 1, India had a score of 16/1 after stumps and lost on a wicket from Rohit Sharma.
