'Pakistan is still very, very dangerous' - Ravi Shastri backs hosts to reach Champions Trophy knockout

The Champions Trophy is scheduled to start on February 19 and Pakistan is prepared to host it. The prestigious ODI event will mark Pakistan’s first hosting of an ICC tournament in almost 29 years. Regarding Pakistan, there has been a great deal of speculation about the course of their campaign.

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri offered his thoughts on Pakistan’s strong reserves and their recent outstanding results in the 50-over tournament.

“I believe Pakistan is the type of team that has produced some incredibly impressive performances, particularly in South Africa, given the exposure they’ve received in white-ball cricket over the past six to eight months. Ayub is a key player that they have missed at the top

But, Ravi Shastri said on The ICC Review, “Pakistan has enough depth to be dangerous, especially in home conditions.”

They ought to make it to the semifinals, after which it’s anybody’s game, in my opinion. He continued, “Pakistan is still extremely dangerous, and they will be even more dangerous if they qualify.”

Ponting gives Pakistan much of credit.

Ricky Ponting, a former Australian captain, believed that if Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were to step up, Pakistan would become “incredibly dangerous.”

“Pakistan’s quick bowling team is excellent. They can challenge any batting lineup with their speed and talent, especially under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, who have been outstanding in recent series. Pakistan would become really dangerous if Babar and (Mohammad) Rizwan can give it their all, as Ponting pointed out. Babar has been a little up and down in recent years.

From an ODI format perspective, 2024 was a fantastic year for Pakistani cricket. In three straight away series, they defeated South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Australia, respectively. New Zealand and the Proteas are their rivals in the Tri Nation Series, in which they are currently participating.
