The renowned cricketer's Test career is described by Ravi Shastri as "Once MS Dhoni makes up his mind, he makes up his mind."

When asked about it, former India coach Ravi Shastri responded in a humorous way, saying that after demonstrating his worth in the current IPL 2023, he should in fact make a comeback.

MS Dhoni is still adept from behind the stumps, despite not having played any international or first-class cricket in a while. The 41-year-old is making some outstanding catches, but more significantly, he still has the ability to intercede and worry the batter on the striker’s end. With that, Dhoni’s supporters on social media have jokingly asked him to rejoin the team for the one-off encounter against Australia in the World Test Championship’s final.

He later explained, though, that once Dhoni decided to stop playing Test cricket, there was no turning back. The renowned stumper-batter, who might have played 100 Test matches with ease, instead put his hands up to give others an opportunity, the former cricketer also said.

“Oh ya. Ravi Shastri commented on MS Dhoni’s selection for the WTC final team in an interview with ESPN cricinfo. “He has shown a lot of young keepers in the country with the way he has kept in the IPL for someone who doesn’t play first-class cricket,” Ravi Shastri said.

He doesn’t want that. He would have wanted to reach the milestone of 100 Test matches. Ravi Shastri

Additionally, Ravi Shastri praised Dhoni by pointing out that he never played for personal records, particularly at a time when Indian cricket was more inclined to be a statistically driven cricket approach. Otherwise, he would not be surprised that MS Dhoni could have played 100 Tests for the nation without much difficulty. Shastri claims that Dhoni could have continued playing for more than a year and a half if he hadn’t stopped playing Test cricket.

“Once MS takes a decision, he sticks to it. In Test cricket, where he could have easily played for a year or a year and a half, he would have loved that 100 Test match mark, that large audience, that great ceremony, walk around the crowd, and saying good-bye to everyone. He doesn’t want that. Shastri continued, “He’s like, ‘Hands up, new dude is there; let him be.

Notably, the two-time World Cup champion captain has participated in 90 Test matches and has amassed 4876 runs at an average of 38.09 over the course of his career. He left international cricket in 2020 but left Test cricket in December 2014. In the current season of the Indian Premier League, he is the team captain of Chennai Super Kings.
