In the forthcoming five-Test series against England, Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri acknowledged that his team needs to carefully control speedster Jasprit Bumrah‘s workload. The right-arm pacer should play the first two Test matches and then take a vacation, according to the former Indian head coach.
“I would exercise extreme caution [with Bumrah].” I would wait for the break after giving him two tests at a time. Make him play four, if possible. Speaking on The ICC Review, Ravi Shastri stated, “If he starts well, you’ll be tempted to make him play five, but it’s how his body pulls up.”
The first chance to respond, “Yes, a little, [I am] feeling the niggle,” should be provided to him. A rest would be beneficial. “Give him that respite,” he continued.
The new World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle will start with the England series. India will be wearing Test jerseys following their 3-1 loss to Australia earlier this year. India’s pace attack had not performed well in Australia. Due to injury, the 31-year-old and Mohammed Shami were unable to play, while Mohammed Siraj found it difficult to establish a rhythm during the Test series.
The former Indian cricket player underlined that the Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer needs to return to his roots and play at his best.
“If Siraj, Jasprit, and Mohammed Shami are healthy, I believe they will cause England a great deal of trouble.” When these three are healthy, it’s a great, elite speed attack,” Ravi Shastri remarked.
And I appreciate that Siraj was hurt after being benched rather than playing for the Champions Trophy. That’s your goal. He has a spring in his stride, the tempo is up there, and he means business game after game, so it’s great that he went back to the drawing board and returned the way he has,” he said.
