On July 6, India and Zimbabwe played their maiden Twenty20 International at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. After winning the toss, India chose to bowl first. Brian Bennett and Wessly Madhevere began to establish a partnership after Innocent Kaia was removed, but Ravi Bishnoi struck in his opening over.
Ravi Bishnoi bowled Bennett a googly in the sixth over of the innings, exposing his off stump as the hitter failed to read it.
The ball clipped the off-stump and the bail was taken apart, thus the umpire moved the call upstairs. The third umpire verified that wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel had not used his gloves to clip the bail. Replays revealed no fault on Jurel’s end, although the initial visual exhibited as not out before showing as out when the signal was sent to the big screen.

In the first Twenty20 International, the Indian squad was led by Shubman Gill. They were playing Zimbabwe. Since it was their first time playing internationally, Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma, the IPL sensations, had a unique event. With this match, Dhruv Jurel, who debuted in Test cricket against England in Ranchi, made his T20I debut as well. Both Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who shone in the 2024 Indian Premier League, have not yet made their debut.
